This thriller was insanely good. I don't usually say that about thrillers. In fact, I'm usually less than thrilled by thrillers. There is a reason why there are a stack of unread thrillers by my bed, that I'm forcing myself to work through this month. But this thriller, this thriller was seriously seriously good.

From the publisher: Looking to earn some easy cash, Jessica Farris agrees to be a test subject in a psychological study about ethics and morality. But as the study moves from the exam room to the real world, the line between what is real and what is one of Dr. Shields’s experiments blurs. Dr. Shields seems to know what Jess is thinking… and what she’s hiding. Jessica’s behavior will not only be monitored, but manipulated. Caught in a web of attraction, deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.
“We all have reasons for our actions. Even if we hide the reason from those who think they know us best. Even if the reasons are so deeply buried we can’t recognize them ourselves.”
An Anonymous Girl is exactly the twisty psychological thriller I was looking for as the days get a little cooler (and a whole lot shorter). I lit my pumpkin candle, curled up under a blanket, and devoured this novel. At first, I was fully team Jess. But then, I started to second guess everything. Was Jess really as innocent as she seemed? Was she the one manipulating Dr. Shields? Who is truly in control. In the end, I think it's safe to say that nothing is as it seems. The characters seemed designed to be simultaneously off-putting and relatable, so that even as the reader recoiled at a choice (think, chicken noodle soup on the doorstep), a small voice in your head starts to question your assumptions (but, wasn't she just trying to be nice?) Highly, highly recommend this read if you are looking for something to get you into the spooky mood.
Now, let me tell you a little bonus story. As soon as I finished An Anonymous Girl, I rushed to my local indie book store to get my hands on a copy of The Wife Between Us. This book was so good, I wanted to keep it going. Imagine my disappointment when my bookstore told me they had just sold out! I went home empty handed, resigned to having to order the book on Amazon and wait two days. In the meantime, I went riffling through my TBR box, which TBH, is getting a little out of hand. I knew I wanted to keep the thriller theme going, seeing as how Halloween is just around the corner. But, WAIT! What, this?! A COPY OF THE WIFE BETWEEN US?! That I had selected as my Book of the Month in DECEMBER 2017?! That, my friends, is fate. Needless to say, stay tuned for a new review very, very soon.
Lauren
